“Oxygen Express” starts journey from Navi Mumbai to Vishakhapatnam

The ‘Oxygen Express’ left from Kalamboli in Navi Mumbai to Vishakhapatnam to bring liquid medical oxygen for Covid-19 patients in Maharashtra.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the Maharashtra government had approached the Ministry to explore whether Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) tankers could be moved by Railways.
Railways explored the technical feasibility of transportation of LMO through Roll On Roll Off (RORO) service with road tankers placed on flat wagons. Seven tankers left Kalamboli station on Monday evening.

Due to restrictions of the height of Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and Over Head Equipment (OHE) at certain locations, out of the various specifications of road tankers, the model of road tanker T 1618 with the height of 3320 mm was found feasible to be placed on flat wagons (DBKM) with a height of 1290 mm.

New Delhi: The Railways will run Oxygen Express trains over the next few days to transport liquid medical oxygen and oxygen cylinders across the country, the national transporter said on Sunday.
Amid spiralling coronavirus cases in the country, the demand for medical oxygen in the country has gone through the roof.
Empty tankers will begin their journey from Kalamboli and Boisar railway stations in and near Mumbai on Monday to load liquid medical oxygen from Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela and Bokaro, officials said.

NEW DELHI: Amid reports of oxygen shortfall in several states hit by a spate of Covid infections, the Indian Railways on Sunday said it will run Oxygen Express trains to transport medical oxygen as well as cylinders across key corridors.
In a statement, the railway ministry said it is fully prepared to transport Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) and oxygen cylinders to ensure adequate supply.
It said that states like Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh had approached the ministry to explore whether liquid oxygen tankers could be moved through trains. Railways immediately explored the technical feasibility of transportation of LMO. LMO has to be transported through Roll On Roll Off (RO RO) service with road tankers placed on flat wagons.

New Delhi, April 18 : Amid demand of oxygen across the country after Covid surge, the railways is getting fully ready to transport Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO) and Oxygen Cylinders from one place to another. The railways has geared up to run oxygen Express trains through green corridor for fast movement of LMO as availability of oxygen is key in the treatment of certain medical conditions due to Covid infection.
