A series of eight stories published by The Free Press delved into the alleged mishandling of donor funds, conditions of a current animal shelter and plans for a new one, and also the future of the Lenoir County SPCA.
Seven of the eight stories, deemed a “series of attacks” by SPCA president Jerry Henderson in his letter to the editor, eventually brought some things to light for the non-profit organization.
Laura Margaret Collins, 81, of Columbia, died on Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Born in Troy, NY, on September 5, 1939, she was a daughter of the late John and Caroline Grace Taylor. She was a snake handler with the traveling Circus S before moving to Columbia in the early 1960âs. She enjoyed volunteering for the Title One Advisory Council of Education in Richland County. Laura spent her life being a large advocate for education.
Survivors include her sons, Anthony John Booth (Sheila) and Joseph Booth; daughters, Jacqueline âJackieâ Booth Davidson, and Terrie Medlin; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Collins; and a granddaughter, Trinity Booth.
