Police warning to stay away from Rivington due to weather

Police are warning residents to stay away from the Rivington area due to poor conditions. Chorley Police are urging people to stay away from Rivington for the rest of the weekend after snow and ice made for dangerous driving and walking conditions. A number of roads could potentially be closed by police after a number of cars got stuck or slid off due to icy conditions. Sheep House Lane, which leads to Belmont, was a particular problem for vehicles, with Chorley Police currently working with Lancashire County Council to look to close Sheep House Lane, Rivington Road (outside the Black Dog pub), Knowsley Lane, Higher House Lane and Dean Head Lane.

St Helens forward John Mantle s Grange Park class of 1966

Now can any of his former Grange Park pupils recognise themselves in this picture? John, who sadly passed away two years ago, put down strong roots in south Lancashire after signing for Saints from Newport on January 1, 1965 - making his debut three weeks later. He would go on to have a magnificent career in the red vee - having the distinction of winning in the 1966, 1972 and 1976 Wembley teams from three different positions in a 435-game stint for Saints. But off the field, too, he made his mark after graduating from Loughborough College and going into the teaching profession. He taught PE at Grange Park School, and is pictured here with a class group from 1966-67.
