Covid vaccines. Picture by Solent NHS Trust. THERE is still time to get a vaccine if you are 45 years and over – despite ‘exceptionally strong’ take up. A number of vaccination appointments are currently available for residents who are eligible at the Riverside Vaccination Centre in Newport. Solent NHS Trust, which is running the site, said take-up of the vaccine has been exceptionally strong, with five out of six people in the first nine priority groups already vaccinated. Eligible people should book online https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/coronavirus-vaccine/ or call 119. If residents attempt to book online but appointments slots are full, they should continue to keep checking the national booking system as more appointments will become available.
IT S been the smoothest of sailing at the Riverside Vaccination Centre no shortage in supply, an abundance of volunteers and a wholly positive experience for all. With a daily capacity of around 500, the number of people coming through the door varies from day to day, as does the time it takes to vaccinate them. An in-depth assessment is carried out by a registered practitioner, to make sure each person is fit, able, and the right person for the right vaccine. That s a key clinical bit of work, said Sarah Stringer, operational lead at the centre. We then get informed consent. And after that, you come into the vaccine bay, your name and consent is quickly checked again, then you re vaccinated.
THE lowest daily number of confirmed Covid-19 cases since before Christmas has been recorded on the Isle of Wight, according to the latest data released by Public Health England. Three new cases have been confirmed today (Tuesday), continuing the pattern of diminishing numbers after 15 were recorded yesterday and 19 the previous day. Exactly one month ago, on January 9, that figure was 279, which shows the significant reduction in cases during the past few weeks. The new cases take the county s total to 6,411 since the start of the pandemic. The rolling data of cases per 100,000 of population for the Island, though five days behind, has dropped again and now stands at 136.8.
