Deadliest weekend so far in Strathcona County; six additional COVID-19 deaths reported by AHS

Between Friday, Jan. 29 and Sunday, Jan. 31, five Sherwood Park residents succumbed to COVID-19 and one resident in the rural portion of the county died from the virus, according to COVID19Stats.Alberta.ca, the geospatial Alberta Health Services case-tracking site. That pushes the local death toll to 29; 25 in the Park and four in the rural county.

As of Thursday, Jan. 28, Alberta Health Services reported 20 deaths in Sherwood Park, which is an increase of two new deaths since Monday, Jan. 25. One was reported on Wednesday and the other was recorded by AHS on Thursday. Along with three previous deaths recorded in the rural area, Strathcona County’s overall COVID-19 death toll has inched to 23 residents.

Youth choirs to bring holiday cheer to local seniors homes

Youth choirs to bring holiday cheer to local seniors homes Back to video The association, which is comprised of three choirs Trebles, Junior, and Secondary and are made up of children aged five to 17, has created an MP3 format compilation of Christmas songs and has dubbed it its winter concert project. Director Angela McKeown Nemetchek headed up the project with the Secondary choir, Grades 7-12, which provided all of the music for a 15-minute recording. The Junior choir, K-6, will also perform Silent Night for the recording.
