Two more local lives have been claimed by the COVID-19 virus this week.
As of Thursday, Jan. 28, Alberta Health Services reported 20 deaths in Sherwood Park, which is an increase of two new deaths since Monday, Jan. 25. One was reported on Wednesday and the other was recorded by AHS on Thursday. Along with three previous deaths recorded in the rural area, Strathcona County’s overall COVID-19 death toll has inched to 23 residents.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Strathcona County has risen slightly this week.
As of Thursday, Jan. 21, there were 127 active cases of the virus in the entire county, with 99 of those in Sherwood Park and 28 in rural Strathcona County, according to COVID19Stats.Alberta.ca, the geospatial Alberta Health Services’ case-tracking site.

Since the pandemic started, there have been 1,585 cases of the virus recorded in Sherwood Park and 1,468 are listed as recovered, which is an increase of 32 recoveries since Tuesday. There was also one new death recorded on Thursday, pushing the Sherwood Park death toll to 18.

Active COVID-19 cases in Strathcona County continue to drop, with just 129 cases as of Monday, Jan. 18.
COVID19Stats.Alberta.ca, the geospatial Alberta Health Services’ case-tracking site, shows there are 96 active cases of COVID-19 in Sherwood Park and 33 in the rural county.

Overall, there have been 1,549 cases of the novel coronavirus recorded in Sherwood Park since the start of the pandemic and 1,436 of those are listed as recovered, which is an increase of 24 recoveries since Friday. The rural area has recorded 488 cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic and 452 of those are listed as recovered, which is an increase of three recoveries since Friday. There have been 17 deaths reported in the Sherwood Park area as well as three in the rural area.

Active COVID-19 cases in Strathcona County are starting to decline, according to the latest stats.
COVID19Stats.Alberta.ca, the geospatial AHS case-tracking site, shows there are 402 active cases of the novel coronavirus in the entire county, with 300 in Sherwood Park and 102 in rural Strathcona County.

The site shows there have been 1,259 cases of the virus recorded in Sherwood Park since the start of the pandemic, with 948 now listed as recovered, which is an increase of 107 since Monday, Dec. 14. There have also been 11 deaths recorded in Sherwood Park due to COVID-19, with the latest death reported by AHS on Monday afternoon.
