Flooding concern over Surfleet flats plan
| Updated: 15:20, 17 February 2021
Planners have held off making a decision on a bid to convert a pub into flats over flooding concerns.
Members of South Holland District Councilâs Planning Committee deferred N Bondâs application to create seven flats at the Riverside Hotel in Surfleet.
Councillors expressed safety concerns about a one bedroom flat being created within the buildingâs cellar due to the location next to the River Welland.

Officers have been asked to go back and look at the flood risk on the site.
The virtual meeting on Wednesday was told that the majority of the building was in flood zone one, while there was an element in flood zone 3 along with the fact that Environment Agency (EA) had lodged a technical objection.

Covid may have narrowed our horizons, but it cannot take our wanderlust. If there has been a silver lining of lockdown, it is the opportunity – nay, compulsion – to explore our own back yards. To take a second look at the spots that we never, pre-pandemic, gave a moment s thought to.
We once rushed through these places – on our way to somewhere bigger, brighter, busier – but now they have become our escapes, a little haven of discovery and adventure. And, it turns out, they were worth exploring all along.
