Wood River reflects on Capitol protests FacebookTwitterEmail WOOD RIVER Officials began the Wood River city council meeting Tuesday with a reflection on the events of Jan. 6 in Washington D.C. “What happened gave cause for concern for all of us,” Wood River Mayor Cheryl Maguire said, in part. “Even though our Capitol is hundreds of miles away, the visuals which came to us touched us and reached into our souls. We are a nation that believes in law and justice.” She also called on people “to resolve to unite for the good of America.” Maguire also informed the council that she is gathering information on an Illinois Department of Transportation Enhancement Grant for the city’s downtown area along Madison Avenue. She will share details of the grant as it becomes available, she said.

Jeremy Bryant, 45, of Wood River, was charged Jan. 5 with two counts of unlawful delivery of methamphetamine, both Class 2 felonies. Chon L. Walsh, 44, of Alton, was charged Jan. 6 with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, a Class 3 felony. Bail for Bryant was set at $85,000, and $15,000 for Walsh. The two were taken into custody Dec. 23 following the execution of a search warrant by Alton and Wood River police at The Stallion Bar in Wood River.
