Intense wildfires near his hometown of Baker City, Oregon in 2020, sparked junior Jake Cuzick’s scientific interest and led to his determination to pursue a doctorate in chemistry. Cuzick’s passionate pursuit of his goals to develop novel solutions for green energy using synthetic chemistry has led to his being awarded a 2024-25 Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. The Goldwater is the preeminent undergraduate award for students intending to pursue research careers in the fields of natural science, mathematics, and engineering.
Mount St. Mary s University will host its 215th commencement exercises at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 in Knott Arena. The ceremony will celebrate the achievements of 616 graduates, including Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coach Todd Bowles and student speaker Rita Anoh. In addition, the Mount will graduate its first-ever students from the Master of Science in Applied Behavior Analysis program.

“Small but mighty” is a phrase that often comes to mind when students and alumni describe the community they found at Mount St. Mary’s University. The phrase has come to life in the rooms of the Coad Science Building particularly in the stories of a group of seven friends who, with the encouragement of their professors and each other, have achieved tremendous success in their studies.
