A $1 million state Seed Community Development Anchor Institution Fund grant will support Mount St. Mary’s University and the Daughters of Charity in turning an underutilized wing of the Daughters’ St. Joseph House in Emmitsburg, Maryland, into the university’s new School of Health Professions. The $8.2 million facility renovation project, which will house a physician assistant program and a pediatric behavior health center, will open in October 2024.

It’s out with the shovels and hard hats and in with the permanent markers at the beam-signing ceremony on April 28 to dedicate the construction of a $10.75 million, 21,000-square-foot addition to the Coad Science Building. Construction of the addition will begin as the spring semester ends and will be completed by the fall of 2024. A fiberglass beam will be signed by the guests at the ceremony and then displayed in a prominent place in Coad during construction before being incorporated in the addition’s structure.
“Small but mighty” is a phrase that often comes to mind when students and alumni describe the community they found at Mount St. Mary’s University. The phrase has come to life in the rooms of the Coad Science Building particularly in the stories of a group of seven friends who, with the encouragement of their professors and each other, have achieved tremendous success in their studies.
