Head of the National Food Agency of Indonesia (Bapanas) Arief Prasetyo Adi has announced that the rice assistance programme for citizens is progressing positively, contributing to price control.
On July 20, India, the world’s largest exporter of rice — accounting for 40 per cent of the global rice trade — put a ban on the export of non-Basmati rice, and its impact is already being seen in Nepal as well.
In addition to a complete ban on exporting broken rice, a 20% export duty has been levied on a number of rice varieties. However, parboiled and basmati rice are exempt from the duty.
