jim, the best thing that former president trump could do would be to simply stay out of this. his role in inciting the riot on january 6th that resulted in the deaths of several police officers and disgraced and defaced our nation s capital and put so many at risk, i think, is a deep stain on his record of service as president of the united states. but president biden is focussed on moving our country forward. the u.s. capital police are making adequate preparations. we in the congress did appropriate several billion dollars after the january 6th riot to strengthen the perimeter and the security of the capital and to provide badly needed and deeply deserved support for the u.s. capital police. so i m cautiously optimistic we ll get through this weekend without more incidents of violence, but they are prepared to protect the capital. and, frankly, as president biden showed in his remarks today, he s focussed on moving us forward and on helping the
work and the select committee now will take that work over. as an example, the house oversight committee had a number of interviews scheduled with members of the trump justice department for instance to talk about what role they may have played in inciting that riot on january 6th. those interviews we re told have been postponed or canceled in some cases, and that responsibility is now going to be in the hands of the january 6th commission. in fact sources telling us basically any part of the investigation by any other committee will be referred to or deferred to that january 6 select committee. now, this is not out of the ordinary. this is something we ve seen happen before. for instance during the benghazi investigation, also when the house investigated former president donald trump s tax returns, we saw all these other committees who had done some level of work consolidate it and put it in the hands of the
the ramifications of giving up our civil liberties. we went through a shutdown where they shut down the entire country and didn t give us a real reason and we haven t came out of that. so are we going to continue to just give our civil liberties away? well, you are right. i think the republicans have been rather weak in pushing back and that s because very cleverly the democrat and nancy pelosi have used and weaponized that riot on january 6th which was an appalling situation. you know, bipartisan nationwide outrage about what happened and 450 people have been arrested already. a lot of them languishing in jail in solitary confinement pre-trial. so you can t say people haven t been punished. you can t say that there is not accountability and investigation. and, yet, for some reason, republicans seem to be on the back foot. they seem to be defensive because if they speak up against
