DSCA has informed Congress that MQ-9B Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) is a weapons-ready aircraft designed for Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE); Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR); Target Acquisition; and Strike Missions.
The MQ-9B SkyGuardian aircraft, set to be sold to India by the US, will come equipped with advanced surveillance capabilities along with lethal attack weaponry such as Hellfire missiles and laser-guided small diameter bombs. The Biden Administration transmitted details of this proposed sale to the US Congress through a letter from the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) last week.
India will get 31 High Altitude Long Endurance (HALE) UAVs, of which the Navy will get 15 SeaGuardian drones, and the Army and the Indian Air Force will get eight each of the land versions SkyGuardian.
