it s a bigger field, a more competitive race. there are more super pacs and there are more donors, but there are big donors giving to hillary clinton and her super pac and there s certainly a lot of wealth on the left. i ll sure we ll see it in the campaign eventually. why are they spending this kind of dough early on? well, i think of these families as the venture capitalists of politics, the people who go out early, put a lot of money on the line before some candidates are even out of the gate. i think they care about the country as they see it. i think a lot of them care about taxes and regulations. and the few that lean right, i think, feel that the system that allowed them to prosper and become wealthy is under threat. now, it also stands to reason the candidates they are backing are mostly pledging to roll back financial regulation, pledging to roll back the estate tax and investment taxes, capital gains taxes, and that would also serve to protect the wealth of these families
