While the pandemic caused a flurry of event cancellations last year, some outdoor outings are a “go” this summer, including the 24th Rachel Carson Trail Challenge.
The 35-mile trek though rugged, hilly terrain only adds to the challenge of the event, which will start in Harrison Hills Park in Harrison at sunrise and finish at North Park in Pittsburgh’s North Hills by sunset.

A man from Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington neighborhood was sent to Westmoreland County Prison without bail Wednesday because police said he threatened to kill police officers and their families as soon as he gets out of jail.
New Kensington police said they arrested Daevar Lamont Stevens, 21, about 7 p.m. Tuesday after an officer saw him walking in the 1300 block of Leishman Avenue. Police Chief Bob Deringer said Stevens was wanted on a warrant accusing him of receiving stolen property.
