Vorster lights up Firethorn to lead SA Stroke Play
RANDPARK, 2 February 2021 – Mossel Bay’s Martin Vorster stepped up his bid to win the South African Stroke Play title in Tuesday’s second round at Randpark Golf Club.
Vorster opened his campaign on the Firethorn course with flawless 64. On another day of heavy rain, the GolfRSA National Squad member picked up where he left off the previous day with an eagle on the par-5 third.
A further six gains for a seven-under-par 65 saw Vorster surge six shots clear of the field.
The presence of South Africa’s leading amateur in the world rankings at the top of the leaderboard will not go unnoticed. Despite a lay-off of seven months, the World No 30 is clearly back to form. And he is no stranger to success.

In this weekâs Player Blog presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Brandon Stone discusses the importance of being able to adapt, how the past year has changed his relationships for the better, and convincing his caddie out of retirement.
You always want to get the year off to a good start, so I was delighted with my result in Dubai last week. From my entire professional career on the European Tour we have always started in the Middle East so the emphasis on starting the year well has always been there. Both Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Emirates have been golf courses Iâve enjoyed in the past, and Iâve enjoyed the atmosphere and prestige of the events and strength of fields. In Abu Dhabi I played quite consistently and then fell off the boil in the first few holes of the second round and I wasnât able to claw it back, so I ended up missing the cut.

In response to China’s security crackdown in Hong Kong, Britain has launched its visa scheme inviting many residents of the former colony move to and eventually settle in the UK. Applications open on Sunday and the government predicts more than 300,000 people may take up the offer over the next five years, bringing in between £2.4 and £2.9bn to the UK by 2025.
Boris Johnson announced that Hong Kong citizens who hold British National (Overseas) status and their dependants would be able to live, study and work in Britain for five years and eventually apply for citizenship. Britain accuses China of breaching the terms of the 1997 handover by introducing security laws that the UK and other countries say are being used to silence dissent. “In doing so we have honoured our profound ties of histo

Germany s Martin Kaymer moved into contention at the Dubai Desert Classic on Friday before the two-time major winner admitted he has sounded out South Africa star Ernie Els in an effort to end his dispiriting seven-year title drought.
Kaymer shot a second round 70 for a two-round total of 140 at the Emirates Golf Club to stand four shots off the halfway lead held by Belgium s Thomas Detry.
Kaymer has not won a title since his second major at the US Open in 2014.
He said that he has looked to Els, a four-time major champion and a 28-time European Tour winner, for input.
