“Poker never really attracted the kind of audience that could make it profitable,” the Rev. Richard McGowan, a finance professor, told
Casino.org.
Unless some of the high rollers demand that it return, there is no reason to reinstate it.”
He explains that the typical patron at MGM Springfield or Plainridge Park Casino is not a poker player.
Poker games were halted at Massachusetts gaming properties when they were shuttered because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Poker was not offered as the venues reopened.
Lakeside Inn and Casino in Stateline, Nevada will auction off its slot machines and other assets this week from the now-closed Nevada property. The move is hardly a surprise, given the impact from the coronavirus pandemic, one sector analyst said.

The gaming venue/hotel was in business for 35 years in Stateline. It is located on Lake Tahoe’s South Shore.
But when the pandemic hit Nevada, the property owners chose to close last April, given the economic downturn and statewide temporary shuttering by Gov. Steve Sisolak (D).
Today, Las Vegas’s Plaza Hotel & Casino opens a slot machine gaming area named for popular online gaming celebrity Brian Christopher.

The gaming area at the downtown property will provide players the chance to try their luck on the popular games they have seen Christopher play in videos posted on YouTube and Facebook.
It will open with 16 slot machines, and more will be added to the mix in the coming months. Slot games at the new Plaza space include: Cleopatra II, Dollar Storm, Lightning Zap, and Huff N Puff.
