April 19 meeting
KEY ACTION Accepted the resignation of Melrose Elementary School Principal Kaylee Harrell, who has accepted a job as principal of Chapman Elementary in Strongsville.
DISCUSSION In an email on Tuesday following the work session, Superintendent Michael Tefs said Harrell, whose last day will be June 28, will be missed tremendously. She is exceptionally gifted. Her work ethic, commitment and servant-style leadership will be hard to replace, Tefs said.
Harrell said in a Wednesday email leaving is the most difficult professional decision she has made, noting the Wooster district was instrumental in developing her as an educator, and she will miss the relationships she has made there.
KEY ACTION The Wooster City School District Board of Education will consider an administrative recommendation to eliminate the athletic pay-to-participate fees for the 2021-22 school year.
At Tuesday evening s regular board session, Director of Secondary Education Richard Leone presented a market analysis of Wooster s athletic pay-to- participate fees structure, which he said began in 2004 during a period of hard economic times and failed operating levies. Since 2004, our community has been very, very supportive of the district and recently passed a levy, he said, prompting consideration of dropping pay-to-participate fees for the coming school year.
The district charges a one-time fee of $120 no matter how many sports played at Wooster High School and $50 at Edgewood Middle School. Comparing the district s pay-to-participate fees to other districts, Leone said, while they are somewhat in line, they are the highest in Wayne County.
It s time for a kitchen makeover at Wooster High School. The board approved seeking bids for replacement of equipment in the high school s kitchen as part of an estimated $250,000 renovation. As the central kitchen, it services the entire district.
republicans are doing what they ve been doing for the last number of months. i m just not sure how this is going to shake out. michael, it s how it plays with the american public and then also, i suppose, in a sense means the president is not just calling the shots himself, but in a sense ceding this to the jim jordans of the world. right. i think what happened with mulvaney is that he and his lawyers saw an opportunity to glomb on to that lawsuit that kupperman has filed as jon bolton because that was richard leone, a republican-appointed judge that was deemed to be favorable to what the trump white house was arguing and they thought they could score a quick point with judge leone and the really interesting rift is not so much between mulvaney and the president and everyone ends up angering him at some point and the rift between bolton and
