Aviation scholarship honors David Luening

The David Luening Memorial Scholarship for aviation enthusiasts has been established with a total contribution of $26,500 over four years, which includes a contribution of more than $16,000 from George Bauer from the Bauer Foundation. The new scholarship was announced at Thursday’s Martha’s Vineyard Airport Commission meeting.
“We’re incredibly honored by this,” Kristen Zern, an airport commissioner, said.
Dan Wolf, CEO of Cape Air, was on the Thursday’s Zoom call, said Cape Air had 30 years of history with Luening, who joined the company through a merger with Edgartown Air. “He became a really good friend and mentor here. He did some consulting at Cape Air,” Wolf said. “He was a very active board member.”

FAA allows local jurisdiction for business park
Rosenbaum voted in again as chair of the airport commission.
Airport commissioner Geoff Wheeler announced to the Martha’s Vineyard Airport Commission Thursday afternoon that after nine months, the Federal Aviation Administration decided it would permit the commission to set rates for business park leases through a custom formula geared to be less burdensome to the tenants than fair market value. Wheeler said he doesn’t know of anywhere else the FAA has made such a concession, other than on Nantucket.
“I think that’s why they sent this thing down to Washington and they sat on it for a few months, trying to figure out what to do,” Wheeler said.

Airport to issue RFP for deteriorating Duchess Hangar
Prospective lessee would renovate or replace dilapidated building now serving as storage.

The Martha’s Vineyard Airport Commission (MVAC) is issuing a request for proposals (RFP) for the derelict Duchess Hangar and the property it sits on.
In order to make the best use of the building, which is currently being used as ad hoc storage for equipment and materials, the airport is placing the approximately 19,190-square-foot property out to bid, although a prospective lessee has expressed interest.
