it s so important because we have to use those histories to contextualize also relations with other brack indigenous people of color communities, because all the folks are subjected to similar histories, similar experiences. instead of dividing people, which is a tacking the that is often used in this country. right? divide and conquer. right. i would love for us to see how these histories are intertwined, how our struggles are intertwined. how we can fight together as co-conspirators and allies to push against all those manifestations in the contemporary concontext and how the past contributes. a lot of major citys have china towns and they re beautiful, aesthetically, and you know they look like, you
was not talking about canadians who are also here in this country. who are also migrants. we wasn t talking about people coming from italy or european countries. that s also a challenge here in immigration. it s also let s focus on the black and brown people. it s exhausting. take a listen to the former ambassador on his take after he resigned over the treatment of haitian migrants. deportation back to haiti is not the answer right now. i am not saying that intending migrants who are in illegal status shouldn t be deported. but haiti is too dangerous. our own diplomats cannot leave our compounds in port-au-prince without armed guard, and the already failed essential services delivery of the haitian government is really overwhelmed in places like the big e slum in
representatives accountable. and two, upon their release, they go back to their home states. how is this practice legal, and what can we do to stop that? well, what you re talking about is prison gerrymandering. that s the practice of counting incarcerated people at the site of the prison instead of their home communities even though they be back in their home communities before you know it. and the reality is in most of the country, prisons are located oftentimes in rural areas in new york where i am right now, most of the prisons are upstate. most of the people in prison come from the down state new york city area, and that s the same in texas and other states. so the effect of that is to give more power to rural, oftentimes whiter areas, and to have less political power for urban areas where most of the prisoners come from. and it s distorted. it s having the census bureau has thought about changing. it didn t do so decade.
insensitive in putting congressman al green and myself in the same district, it s short sighted, it violates the roting rights act, and i m making an inquiry as to why. all right. that was congresswoman sheila jackson lee. she has words for the republicans joining her congressional district. the texas senate on friday approved a congressional map increases the number of white majority districts while reducing the voting power for texans of color. nearly every state in the country is redrawing their congressional districts after the 2020 census and four have enacted the new maps. these redistricting efforts are critical, especially for black and brown communities. because when has gerrymandering ever worked in our favor? joining me to discuss is michael lee and doug spencer. i ve been reading research.
folks that say the crazy things, you like misinformation is true and i will say this is white supremacy run amuck as it has in the country. how is it seeing those folks in the hallway? look, i don t come across those members you mentioned. good for you. at the end of the day, i would say it is a vitriolic and toxic atmosphere right now. i think it s again in large part of the threats that existed january 6th that have metastasized since then. that has not abated at all, if anything, it s gotten worse. given their resis thattens to mask wearing. i say keep your distance. we ll have to have you back soon. coming up, an you are vent message too voters as we approach the mid-terms. i will have chair jamie harrison. we will discuss all of that and more stay tuned. we will discuss all of that and more stay tuned. having someone else do your books for you. i m linda, your quickbooks live bookkeeper. let s do this linda! sounds good!
