A Covid vaccination hub that can deliver up to 2000 jabs a day has opened at Sandown Racecourse.
South Sudanese community leaders were among the first to roll up their sleeves for AstraZeneca shots at the centre’s 29 booths on 19 May.
Jago Adongjak of Centre for Multicultural Youth said the vaccine was a “very important step in fighting this coronavirus”.
“We need as a community to be seen to be doing the right thing.
“I’ve taken it today because it’s very important for everybody – for yourself, your family, your community and most importantly Australia.”
Mr Adjongjak said “too much conflicting information in the media” was causing hesitancy. It needed to be countered, he said.

Monash Health’s head of infection control, Rhonda Stuart, was the first Victorian to get the Pfizer anti-Covid vaccine on Monday 22 February.
It represented an “exciting turning point” for Professor Stuart’s team, which treated the country’s first confirmed Covid case in January 2020.
“This will stop diseases, stop deaths and people needing to attend the hospital.”
“It’s been a busy week,” she said after 1000 health care staff were jabbed over the next five days.
But it was also a busy year, with Monash treating about 160 people with Covid-19.
The hub at Monash Medical Centre administered 1000 jabs to Prof Stuart and health care staff in the first week.

Health experts are urging all Australians to get the coronavirus vaccine once they are able to, as the start of the jab rollout is heralded as a milestone in the nation s pandemic response.
The rollout commences with about 60,000 Pfizer vaccine doses to be administered to priority groups.
The first Victorian to roll up their sleeve and receive the Pfizer vaccine on Monday morning was Rhonda Stuart, the head of infection control at Monash Health. I m really proud to be getting this vaccine and starting the next chapter in our work against COVID, she told reporters. Now the aim is to get all our healthcare workers vaccinated and then out to the public as well.
