If you find a colorful hand-painted shell on Aquidneck Island, you may have stumbled upon a creative new coupon for a local business created by one of the hobbyist shell painters from the Aquidneck Shells Facebook group.
“They re not put in areas where they re hidden, hidden,” said Middletown resident Sheri Arbige. “We’ll put it in a planter or something where it ll catch your eye. That way they can be found.”
Aquidneck Shells is a Facebook group Arbige launched with her son Jaxon in August last year as a fun community activity for families looking for something to do during the COVID pandemic. The objective is to find shells, paint them and hide them across Aquidneck Island for other members of the group to find and post. The group has grown rapidly, now boasting more than 3,600 members.
