A Texaspolice officer said he had no choice but to shoot an unarmed Black man who charged at him after repeated warnings and a failure of communication, according to a report.
New bodycam footage reveals the full exchange between Killeen Police Officer Reynaldo Contreras and Patrick Warren Sr., 52, after the officer responded to a call at around 5:40 p.m. on Jan. 10.
Killeen Police Chief Charles Kimble showed the footage to members of the press on Tuesday, saying he didn t see how Contreras could’ve done anything else, according to FOX 44.
The Killeen Police Department has released narrated footage of a January 10 encounter between and officer and a man in mental distress that ended with the latter losing his life.
On January 10, 2021, 5-year KPD veteran Officer Reynaldo Contreras was dispatched to the home of 52-year-old Patrick Warren Sr. around 5:40 PM.
Police say someone at the home in the 1600 block of Carrollton Avenue in Killeen had called 9-1-1 and requested a mental health deputy, but one was not available so Officer Contreras and another Killeen PD officer were dispatched since the call came from within city limits.
At a news conference Tuesday, KPD Chief Charles Kimble said the day s snowfall may have caused the other responding officer to run behind. Contreras arrived at the home first and knocked on the door of the home, after which he was told the door was open and invited inside.

KILLEEN, Texas Civil Rights attorney for Patrick Warren, Sr. s family Lee Merritt held a press conference Wednesday to provide an update on the fatal shooting.
This update comes a day after the Killeen Police Department held its own press conference where Chief Charles Kimble shared the graphic footage from Officer Reynaldo Contreras body camera from the day he shot and killed Warren.
Temple Police detectives are investigating the cityâs first homicide of 2021.
The incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening in the 600 block of East Young Avenue, police said.
Officers found 38-year-old Roderick Keith Harris wounded in the shooting. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple, where he died from his injuries later that evening, spokesman Cody Weems said.
âNo suspects have been identified at this time,â Weems said in a news release. âThe circumstances of this incident are under investigation.â
In 2020, seven homicides were recorded in Temple.
Elvin DaShaun Worthey â the last homicide victim of 2020 in Temple â was fatally shot at about 1:38 a.m. Dec. 26 in the 900 block of North Second Street, police said. Temple officers found Worthey dead at the scene.
