A Temple man was fatally shot in retaliation after his son allegedly bought marijuana with counterfeit money, according to arrest affidavits for three suspects charged with murder in the slaying.
The suspects â 31-year-old Elizabeth Renee Moore, 26-year-old Concepcion Quinones and 18-year-old Deon Le Felland â were arrested for their roles in the Jan. 16 shooting death of Roderick Keith Harris, police spokesman Cody Weems said.
Harris, 38, was shot in the leg around 7:45 p.m. in the 600 block of East Young Avenue, police and affidavits said.
Harris told police at the scene âhe had heard gunshots and had gone outside his home when he saw a vehicle drive by again, and Harris was shot from a firearm inside the vehicle,â a dark-colored sedan, the affidavits said.
A 27-year-old man accused of gunning down another man in Temple last months has turned himself in to police.
The Temple Police Department announced Thursday that Demetrius Lamiere Rush had been taken into custody on suspicion of having fatally shot 31-year-old Elvin DaShaun Worthey.
Rush reportedly turned himself in at the Temple Police Department around 6:50 PM Wednesday. Bell County Jail records indicate Rush was booked later that night at 7:25 PM. He s been charged with first degree murder, criminal mischief, and marijuana possession.
Rush remained in the Bell County Jail Thursday afternoon with bonds totaling $1,010,000.
Back on Saturday, December 26, police responded to a shots fired called from the 900 block of North Second Street. When they arrived, officers found Worthey dead at the scene.
Temple Police detectives are investigating the cityâs first homicide of 2021.
The incident occurred at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday evening in the 600 block of East Young Avenue, police said.
Officers found 38-year-old Roderick Keith Harris wounded in the shooting. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Temple, where he died from his injuries later that evening, spokesman Cody Weems said.
âNo suspects have been identified at this time,â Weems said in a news release. âThe circumstances of this incident are under investigation.â
In 2020, seven homicides were recorded in Temple.
Elvin DaShaun Worthey â the last homicide victim of 2020 in Temple â was fatally shot at about 1:38 a.m. Dec. 26 in the 900 block of North Second Street, police said. Temple officers found Worthey dead at the scene.
