Holy smokes! P60-M smuggled cigarettes seized at Manila port

Published March 2, 2021, 8:40 PM Bureau of Customs (BOC) agents seized late last month some 2,000 master cases of smuggled cigarettes worth P60 million, the agency revealed in a statement Tuesday, March 2. The Feb.26 operation, which led to the confiscation of the million-peso contraband, was carried out by the Manila International Container Port’s (MICP) Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS).  The shipments came from China and were consigned to two entities: Green Nature Alliance Ventures Corp. and Atlantic Globe Movers Inc.  Green Nature initially declared their shipment to contain 1,134 cartons of Zhong Su brand pe stretch film, while Atlantic Globe declared theirs as 74 packages of lowering device packing equipment.

Customs clears first batch of Sinovac jabs

(Chinese Embassy in Manila) Among those who witnessed the arrival of the Sinovac Biotech-made vaccines from China were President Duterte, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco T. Duque III, and Senator Christopher “Bong” Go.  BOC Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero, Assessment and Operations Coordinating Group Deputy Commissioner Edward James Dy Buco, and NAIA District Collector Carmelita M. Talusan supervised the inaugural arrival of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) jabs.  The vaccines were processed and released through the bureau’s advance clearance process to ensure its expedient release and delivery. Underguarding duties were also done by the BOC’s COVAX Special Handling Task Force, which was composed of members of NAIA’s Enforcement and Security Service and Aircraft Operations Division.
