ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec 17 (PIA) – The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-9 with the law enforcement units of anti-smuggling campaign conducted three major condemnation of counterfeited cigarettes here as part of the stringent restrictions imposed in the Zamboanga City Port.
BOC-9 Senior Police Captain Leonard George Carillo revealed this during the recent 4th Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) meeting. We are really strictly monitoring the port and imposed certain restrictions to check on the cargoes if those are properly documented,” the Senior Police Captain said during the 4th RPOC meeting this month.
In line with the Bureau’s mandate to strengthen the border protection to prevent entry of illegal goods, the BOC-Port of Zamboanga leads the destruction of some millions-worth of smuggled cigarettes which were seized in different anti-smuggling operations this year in Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-tawi area.

The condemnation of unregistered cosmetics and food products is part of Bureau of Customs’ border protection initiatives to protect the public against unsafe and hazardous consumer products.
The goods were destroyed using the Thermal Decomposer (Pyrolysis) Facility of the Integrated Waste Management Inc. (IWMI) to ensure that these items will not be sold or made available in the market.
For the year 2020, the Port of NAIA has already condemned a total of 371.42 tons of unregistered and hazardous goods. This is also in compliance with Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero’s directive to decongest all ports and warehouses.
