BOC seizes P1 1-B fake goods in Pasay City

(Photo courtesy of BOC-POM) MANILA - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Wednesday reported the recent seizure of approximately PHP1.1 billion worth of counterfeit goods inside some warehouses in Pasay City. In a statement, the bureau said a team composed of personnel from the BOC-Port of Manila and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) inspected the Baclaran Wholesale Complex located at the corner of F.B. Harrison and J. Fernando Streets in Baclaran, Pasay City on November 29. Armed with a Letter of Authority (LOA) issued by Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, the team conducted the operation that led to the discovery of purportedly smuggled counterfeit goods. An initial inventory of the items was conducted which revealed numerous items bearing the brands Victoria's Secret, Birkenstock, Lacoste, Converse, Nike, Adidas, Jordan, Havaianas, Barbie, HP, among others. BOC posts nearly P7-B collection surplus in November

(File photo) MANILA - The Bureau of Customs (BOC) logged a collection surplus of close to PHP7 billion in November. The latest data from the BOC's Financial Service released on Wednesday showed a total collection of PHP58.789 billion for November, an increase of 13.39 percent from the target collection of PHP51.847 billion. It added that 12 out of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month. These are the Ports of San Fernando, Manila International Container Port, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Tacloban, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, and Limay. To date, the BOC has collected PHP584.156 billion since January 2021, or 94.7 percent of the total 2021 collection target placed at PHP616.749 billion. Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero attributed the positive collection performance to several factors, including the improvement in the volume of importation, improved valuation, the intensified collection efforts of all 17 ports. Sigmundfreud Barte Jr., BOC-Zamboanga district collector, said the smuggled produce, which consisted of 151 sacks of red onions and 121 sacks of garlic, was seized in Barangay New Labangan of Labangan town at about 10 a.m. on Thursday.
