HELENA â The Helena School District has reached the final stages of its search for a new superintendent.
Last week, the school board chose two finalists:
· Kevin Aten, superintendent of the Bayfield School District in Bayfield, Colorado
· Rex Weltz, former superintendent of the Polson School District and current principal at Rossiter Elementary School
On Thursday morning, the candidates toured Helena and Capital High Schools and Bryant Elementary School, as well as the district office. They held online meetings with administrators, staff and students and met with current superintendent Tyler Ream.

Rossiter Elementary School Principal Rex Weltz and Bayfield, Colorado, School District Superintendent Dr. Kevin Aten are the two finalists for the superintendent position with Helena Public Schools.

HELENA â Helena School District trustees have chosen the top two candidates to become the districtâs next superintendent.
The school board held online interviews with five semifinalists Wednesday and Thursday. After the last interview, they unanimously selected two finalists:
· Kevin Aten, superintendent of the Bayfield School District in Bayfield, Colorado
· Rex Weltz, principal of Rossiter Elementary School and former superintendent of the Polson School District
Board chair Luke Muszkiewicz said trustees had good interviews with all the semifinalists, but they felt Aten and Weltz were the strongest candidates to lead the district.
