There are plans to introduce a one-way traffic system on one of the busiest streets in Derry s city centre.
The proposal to make Ferryquay Street one-way is a part of a plan to breathe new life into the city centre in the wake of the ongoing impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Details of the Recovery & Revitalisation Programme, which is funded by the Department for Communities, were outlined in a report discussed at a meeting yesterday of Derry City and Strabane District Council s Environment and Regeneration Committee.

Shoppers to benefit from festive parking holiday
The parking holiday has been arranged by the Strabane BID initiative and sends a clear message that Strabane town centre is open for business and ready to welcome customers out to bag a last minute bargain.
Welcoming the announcement, Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Councillor Brian Tierney, said it was a very positive gesture in the run up to Christmas. “This is just the latest initiative in a wider programme of support for our businesses who are very much relying on local custom at this time,” he explained. “This has been a prolonged period of unprecedented challenges for businesses across all sectors, but particularly retail and hospitality outlets that are reliant on Christmas trade to carry them through the slower months.

PLANNING and Development Minister Camille Robinson-Regis chaired the first meeting of the Revitalisation of Port of Spain ministerial committee on Wednesday.
A media release said the other committee members are Minister of Housing and Urban Development Pennelope Beckles; Minister of Tourism Randall Mitchell; Minister of Works and Transport Rohan Sinanan; MP for PoS North/St Ann’s West Stuart Young; MP for PoS South Keith Scotland; and Udecott chairman Noel Garcia.
