Tarin for consolidating fragmented businesses
Says govt will provide targeted, sustainable incentives to business community

ISLAMABAD:
The government is committed to providing targeted and sustainable incentives to the business community, said Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin.
Chairing a meeting with representatives of the Overseas Investment Chambers of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) and the Pakistan Business Council (PBC) on Friday, Tarin said that the end goal was to achieve an all-inclusive sustainable economic growth, which would lead to industrialisation, employment generation, export-led growth and import substitution.
The finance minister reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitating the textile sector in enhancing value-added goods exports. He stressed the need for consolidating the fragmented businesses and promoting value-added exports on a competitive basis internationally.

Pakistan attaches special importance to bilateral relations with the United Kingdom and economic and business linkages between the two countries should be strengthened further, said Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin. Talking to British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner at the Finance Division, he appreciated the support extended by the British government and its people to Pakistan during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. He apprised the high commissioner of the Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme and the initiative of direct cash transfers to the under-privileged women. “Ehsaas programme has played a significant role in mitigating the economic hardships of the marginalised groups of society amid Covid-19,” he said.
World Bank reiterates support to overcome Pakistan’s energy challenges

ISLAMABAD: The World Bank on Tuesday reiterated support to Pakistan for overcoming challenges in the energy sector and reaffirmed its commitment to assistance for the implementation of structural reforms.
World Bank Managing Director (Operations) Axel van Trotsenburg lauded the socioeconomic coverage extended to the marginalised sections of the society during Coronavirus pandemic. He held a virtual meeting Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Division Omar Ayub Khan, Minister for Power Hammad Azhar, State Bank of Pakistan Governor Reza Baqir attended the meeting.
