Control of information is a crucial element of crisis management. If this saying rings true, the government would seem to be on the verge of disaster because it has failed to direct information regarding the Covid-19 situation.
A hodgepodge of data disinformation, misinformation, political spin, fake news or even honest and healthy criticism have impeded the government s attempt to handle the Covid situation.
To be fair, some of the criticism is unfair, and a myriad of fake news is whizzing about, confusing the public. But low-quality data and disinformation is able to grab a hold on people s imaginations because the government s own communication skills are so poor. It is failing to engage with people.
