"We've heard a lot of concern from the community, people who are frankly terrified at the idea of these lines going away and rightfully so," said 1st District Supervisor Manu Koenig who co-sponsored the resolution alongside 2nd District Supervisor Zach Friend.
"All indications are that this is going to be the biggest and most intense winter storm we've had this season," Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience Director Dave Reid told the Sentinel.
After absorbing a heavy one-two punch by way of mammoth waves and a high tide Thursday, local crews and community members spent Friday cleaning up the mess that was left behind.
"It's global climate change coming home and landing squarely on local government and community," said Santa Cruz County Office of Response, Recovery and Resilience Director Dave Reid.
"Part of my reason for bringing this forward is I haven't found another way to help people rebuild out of harm's way . if there is one I'd love to hear it," said Supervisor Manu Koenig. "This is really the beginning of reconciling with a changing world and a changing climate."
