NCR 4-day case growth rate decreases: OCTA data

MANILA - The OCTA Research Group on Saturday said the growth of Covid-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR) has been decreasing steadily based on the seven-day moving average of new infections. OCTA Research Group member Dr. Guido David tweeted the growth rate has decreased to 3 percent from 5 percent the day before. "Once the daily growth rate becomes negative, new cases in the NCR are decreasing," he posted on Twitter. As of the January 11 data, NCR's reproduction number also decreased to 3.22. Reproduction number is the number of individuals a Covid-19 case could infect. While the decrease in growth rate is strong evidence that the trend in the NCR appears to be peaking, it is still subject to data backlog and late reports, David said. "If this trend is real, we could expect 16K to 18K cases in the NCR today (Saturday) an 15K to 16K tomorrow (Sunday)," his tweet read. In the recent two weeks, NCR recorded the most number of cases at 18,142, followed b

NCR on severe Covid-19 outbreak: OCTA

(File photo) MANILA - The OCTA Research Group on Tuesday described the Covid-19 situation in the National Capital Region (NCR) a "severe outbreak", with the average daily attack rate (ADAR) rising to 89.42 percent from January 4 to 10. In its latest report, the OCTA Research Group said NCR's current ADAR is above the threshold for a severe outbreak which is greater than 75 per 100,000 individuals per day. The region's ADAR for the week of Dec. 28, 2021 to Jan. 3, 2022 was only 12.71. Its recent seven-day positivity rate increased to 48 percent from 20 percent for the previous week. Positivity rate is the percentage of Covid-19 tests performed which turned out positive in a certain area or region. "The reproduction number or the number of individuals a Covid-19 case could infect with the virus has decreased from 5.65 to 5.22 which indicates the trend slowed down slightly," the OCTA said. It added the hospital bed occupancy in the NCR has increased to 57 perce

NCR exceeds 50% positivity rate: OCTA

PNA file photo MANILA - The OCTA Research Group on Sunday said the positivity rate in the National Capital Region (NCR) has exceeded 50 percent for the first time -50.5 percent as of January 7, 2022. "The data from DOH (Department of Health) shows that the rate of increase of the positivity rate could be slowing down. We will know in the next few days if the positivity rate is indeed slowing down or if this is just an artificial effect," OCTA Research Group fellow Dr. Guido David said in his tweet. Positivity rate is the percentage of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) tests performed which turned out positive in a certain area or region. "If the peak in positivity rate is slowing down, then the peak (of Covid-19 cases) in the NCR might occur within the week," David added. According to OCTA, the NCR logged the most number of cases from January 2 to 8 at 8,468. It is followed by Bacoor City with 218, Antipolo with 211, Cainta with 202, and Dasmarinas with 152. (PNA)
