been covered. and for the republicans to talk about repealing the affordable care act really is very heartless. it s wrong. and when you look at what they re proposing and we re still reviewing this because they put it out last night and to want have hearings this week. when you look at this, it s going to be the poor, low income individuals, it s going to be the elderly and disabled who are going to get hurt. when you say it s very popular. how would you interpret this? i wonder about this sometimes too, president obama and the democrats enacted it in 2010. and months later, republicans scored historic victory in the midterm elections running against it. president obama got elected in 2012, but then t years later, republicans promising again to do away with it posted big gains in the midterm elections, and of course, donald trump was elected last fall. what message would you take from that. well i m not looking at this from a political point of view, steve, we have to look at how

a lot playing out right now as we come to you on this day 47 of the first 100 days just in the last few minutes, you heard this now. it s at the top of our agenda today. president donald trump speaking before cameras there, meeting with congressional republicans enthusiastically voicing his support for that health care replacement bill that republican leaders unveiled yesterday. the president saying he s seeing wide and deep support from republicans predicting speedy passages, claiming it fulfills all of his campaign promises on the subject. but as donald trump makes that case and makes those promises, a revolt brewing within the republican party just minutes before the president made those remarks. republicans, conservatives on capitol hill, they step forward to say, they are nowhere near ready to sign up for this legislation. we have to admit, we are divided on replacement. we are united on repeal, but we are divided on replacement.
believe is conservatives simply because a republican is now in the white house? all right. joining us now, phillip clyne, washington executor, and let me ask you, we put the math up there, 218 votes in the house. that s what republicans need. can 218 house republicans be convinced, do you think, that this plan represents the repeal and replace that they ve been calling for for years now? i think it s definitely a challenge. republicans, for years, have tried to message and attack obamacare, but they ve failed to unite around a single alternative, and they ve often said, we re just going to settle for scoring short term messaging victories about whatever the obamacare controversy of the day was. and now that s coming back to haunt them because they didn t litigate a lot of these differences over theears in ich they were out of power. so now that they re in a position to repeal it, they have a difficult time.
