It has been nearly six months since Wilma Finlay from Scottish cheesemaker The Ethical Dairy shipped any of her products to Northern Ireland.
“When Brexit was implemented in January, it meant that we had a whole load of more paperwork to do, including getting a vet to inspect our premises, because it s an animal product,” she says.
“For each one of our orders that was going to Northern Ireland we would have to go through this process. On top of which the courier company added something like £12 to the cost, so instead of paying about a fiver we were going to be paying £17 to get the goods to Northern Ireland.”
