back in july, he was actually partly inspired, it would appear by an american terrorist in yemen who was killed in that drone strike a few years ago. incidental incidentally, just a few weeks agoethe fbi director said they may never provide the motive publicly for that attack in chattanooga. may never be publicly known. a long time before we know the motive in this case. we may never know it. the president seemed to indicate at least the first part of what you said, it could be some time before they know exactly, when they re ready to tell folks exactly what the motive is here. so much more to be learned about this husband and wife duo. these attackers. evan, thank you, paul, thank you so much. coming up, we re going to take you back to san bernardino. waiting for a live update from the san bernardino police. this will be the first big update of the day on the investigation and what may be some more information into who did this and why. we ll be right back.
they have been looking into whether syed farook may have been radicalized based on the fact he had a cash of weapons at the home, bombs that created this bomb lab and he was in touch with terrorism subjects investigated with the fbi and i m told those connections were tenuous and over the course of several years that these were not high priority terrorism subjects and had there been a lot of communication, that syed farook would be on the most wanted list and there would be a terrorism case on him. we re told officials didn t know much about these two. they weren t on the radar and that s part of the reason they are getting information, piece together the lives. i m sure they are doing that right now as we speak. pamela, thank you. let s bring in our justice reporter evan perez, terrorism analyst paul cruickshank and bob
sources tell cnn that farook a devout muslim by many accounts may have been radicalized. he did recently travel to saudi arabia where he met his wife. get right to cnn justice reporter evan perez. he s been speaking to his sources. evan, i have to say there are a lot of people out there saying obviously this is islamic terrorism. right. law enforcement not there, at least not yet. why? they re really not there. and right now frankly the working theory they have is this might well be one of those hybrid cases where someone might have radicalization in their background, but also perhaps had some working beef, some beef with people at his workplace. and that s perhaps maybe what triggered the shooting yesterday or at least played a role. we do know that they believe there are indications that there was radicalization that was happening there with this shooter. and perhaps his wife as well. the fact that you have two of them carrying out this shooting together leaving behind their 6-
dead and 17 wounded in san bernardino, california. police are right now searching, well, they re searching the home of the two shooters. syed rizwan farook and tasthfeen malik. right now the fbi says those two, they were not on any law enforcement radar. very latest now on the investigation. joining us cnn justice reporter evan perez and paul crookshank. evan, we heard from the president himself. he said, we don t know what caused this terrible event. he said it is possible it was terrorism and possible it was also work-place related and possible a mixture of both. what is the latest you re hearing from your sources. i think you re exactly right, john. that is what is driving the fact that the fbi tais taking the lead as the president mentioned earlier this hour. a couple things that aretriving that. the things that just don t add up in this case. this is not like a lot of the other shootings and it s sad to
