you know, this president will always harbor the really the anger and the angst and the complaint about john mccain in that senator mccain did not vote for the repeal of obamacare. but my comment to the president would be, look, if it was that compelling i don t think the vote would have rested on one man. maybe you need to look yourself in the mirror and say maybe i needed to make a better argument about this. but if you re exclusively looking at an individual to help carry your water, you have failed in your effort to lead us in a particular direction. again, i m not trying to be political here, but what i am trying to say is the president has an obligation. in the position he is he really could have assumed the high road. we all know there s precious little traffic up on the high road. but it s impossible for this president to do that. well, you re speaking like a leader and that s how leaders should speak. thank you both for your time.
about himself? it s amazingly disappointed the leader of the free world is that petty in that regard. to say, look, it s not about me but cleary it is all about me. but what ryan just described is really a juxtaposition between two incredibly different men with a different arc of their lives. and the differences could not be more stark. you know, this president will always harbor the really the anger and the angst and the complaint about john mccain in that senator mccain did not vote for the repeal of obamacare. but my comment to the president would be, look, if it was that compelling, i don t think the vote would have rested on one man. maybe you need to look yourself in the mirror and say maybe i needed to make a better argument about this. but if you re exclusively looking at an individual to help carry your water, you have failed in your effort to lead us in a particular direction. again, i m not trying to be political here, but what i am trying to say is the president
ago. what are they expecting and why aren t we seeing them protest against their government. it s not just other countries. as i have written before, the resistance as it s called had a big effect on american politics and stops the repeal of obamacare and end the house majority. in this instance, it highlights the limits to the resistance. do you not see mass sickouts or one-day strikes. you don t see mass demonstrations on behalf of the federal workers. the clip you just show is the exception unlike the obamacare constituents. i m a big fan of what the grass roots progressives have done, but i don t think they are having much of an effect on this issue. that saddens me because the shut
congressional ball at the white house, calls on lawmakers to come together and work on that plan. take a listen. i believe we will get exciting health care. exciting things happened over the last 4 hours. if everybody is smart, we have a lot of democrats here tonight and i m happy about that. i have a lot of friends who are democrats. we have democrats here. if the republicans and the democrats get together, we are going to end up with incredible health care, which is the way it should have been from day one. and it s going to happen. it now has a chance to happen. reporter: former president obama continued to defend the law on facebook last night as the enrollment period came to an end, saying that if voters are upset about this outcome in the court against obamacare, they should continue to go out and vote for democrats because republicans are going to continue to pursue a repeal of
thoughts. which gop is likely to be correct on this one? it will keep working through the courts. there s a reason every serious effort to repeal and replace obamacare has included protections for people with pre-existing conditions. that s long been a priority. i think after a decade of trench warfare on the affordable care act it s time for both parties to kind of move past that debate. i want democrats to recognize that the desire for change in our health policy is in part because of the defishsciencies obamacare. i want republicans to realize we will never get that great moment of president obama signing the repeal of obamacare in part because he s no longer president. both parties need to find a way to address the health care challenges of today, not relitigating an issue we really concluded about ten years ago. in the past few days, republicans have been pressing the point that this ruling will not affect people s ability to get health care for 2019. are they already becoming
