Library bosses are in the good books as new delivery service is a hit
Almost 200 people have signed up to Renfrewshire Leisure’s Libraries Direct service, which provides free delivery of library books to those over the age of 70, people with disabilities and families with children.

A HOPEFUL call for renewed joy has been unveiled on an artwork posted on a giant billboard in a Scottish town. It is the first in a series in an outdoor visual arts project designed to promote pride in Paisley as well as raise spirits during the coronavirus restrictions. Three specially commissioned artworks are being featured on a five-and-a-half metre high billboard outside Paisley’s Gilmour Street Station between now and April 6 and are part of Renfrewshire Leisure’s Out of Place programme that also features online gigs, film, audio performances and creative workshops. The first piece to be featured on the billboard is a poem by Roddy Scott, called Sma’ Shot Reel, which talks about celebrating the end of coronavirus lockdown restrictions. The second is by David Rae, whose words draw on the romance of meeting and parting at the station.

Paisley Arts Centre Performance RENFREWSHIRE residents are set to be treated to a wide range of online entertainment this spring. Launched on Friday, Renfrewshire Leisure will be hosting entertainment, creative events and mastercalsse called The Out of Place programme. Online gigs, film and audio performances and creative workshops will feature, including performances from Paisley based singer-songwriter Becca Starr. Fans will be able to watch through the Ren TV online channel. Renfrewshire Leisure Arts Manager, Rikki Payne said: “Our arts venues may be closed due to the coronavirus restriction, but we’re making sure everyone can still access arts and culture through our online channels.
COMEDIAN Janey Godley, singer Karine Polwart and partners in crime writing Chris Brookmyre and Dr Marisa Haetzman are among those joining 2020 Booker winner Douglas Stuart at Paisley Book Festival next month. This year’s event will be a digital forum but it means audiences will be able to listen in the comfort of their own homes to contributors from across the world. The theme, Radical New Futures, emerged from the Covid-19 pandemic and the resilience and fortitude that people and communities have shown. It has also been inspired by the importance that green spaces have played as solace and recuperation over the last year.
