With its unprecedented power, is there anything anyone can do about it . I wish i could tell you that were going to be able to stop all interference. But that just wouldnt be realistic. All in starts right now. Good evening from new york. Im chris hayes. Tonight, the infamous steel dossier is at the very center of the news on the russia investigation. Nbc news reports that investigators on special counsel Robert Muellers team have interviewed christopher steele. Thats of course the former British Intelligence officer who compiled that absolutely explosive document. The dossier deals an alleged effort by the russian government over a period of years, stretching back to 2013 or so, to cultivate and coopt donald trump and his inner circle, as well as an extensive conspiracy between the Trump Campaign and Russian Forces to Work Together to interfere in the 2016 president ial election on trumps behalf. The president denies those and now it appears mueller wants to ask some followup question

played clips of it yet. i m surprised they haven t put screen shots of it into the indictment. they have pictures of boxes on stage and boxes in bathrooms, but the single most damaging thing in this indictment, the most criminal they think it appears, they didn t put the screen shots of that in. i push back on that. those photos are pretty damning. as i pointed out to tim. trump also says he expects two more indictments, one federal and one state in georgia. both tied to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. and one of his gop presidential rivals pounced on that today. it is most likely that by the time we get on the debate stage on august 23rd, the front-runner will be out on bail in four different jurisdictions. joining us now is renato

well as continuing to push them on their back feet inside of russian territory. not just moscow, but rostov and several other oblast within the russian area. and today ukrainian officials announced plans to attend peace talks in saudi arabia. russia will not be part of those discussion, and putin insists there will be no cease-fire while the ukrainian counteroffensive is under way. what is the goal here? it s fascinating, isn t it? this was a little bit of a surprise announcement. i think it s twofold, paula. first of all, it s complex, as renato just told you. i should be on his podcast, because there is another complexity. you re talking about saudi arabia hosting a peace conference. now saudi arabia is known to be partners at times with the russian federation. so even that is a little bit suspect. but i would suspect that they are going to look at long-term strategies for what will happen

challenge for the president. mueller is saying you can t just walk away from us right now. you have to sit down. he s trying to do it in a cooperative way. robert costa of the west with that story breaking news about the president s attorneys being informed by robert mueller that the president of the united states is subject of his investigation but currently not eight electrical karth about the president giving an interview to his investigators. robert, thank you for breaking that story. i want to bring in jennifer rogers and renato marriotty, both former federal investigators. break it down, jennifer, what s the differences? a subject is someone who is of interest and you want to speak to but isn t someone who you have criminal evidence against who you re about to charge basically. so i m not surprised to hear that the president isn t a target on the collusion side of the house. i am a little bit surprised if the special counsel was so clear as to say he s not a target of my obst

who will hide things or what have you. mueller would be hard pressed to try to charge him on obstruction based on anything that doesn t include that interview. i understand renato s point. i see what you re saying that should he interview the president and not get information in that interview it would be hard to then go back and charge him with something or issue a report recommending that. that s my view. look, i think they want some assurances. they re not going to get the assurances they want. if he gives them anything in the interview, you know, the game is up. he switches over to a target. obviously, they re just trying to get what they can now and get assurances before he walks in there. also, renato, what s the timeline here? i feel like we ve been covering the story now for weeks and weeks. maybe six weeks or so, mule ter obviously wants to talk to the president. his lawyers going back and forth. at a certain point, something s going to happen, right?
