AI mechanism should protect safety of people: Amitabh Kant

New Delhi [India], May 24 (ANI): There must be a robust and reliable enforcement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) mechanism that protects the safety of citizens, government and businesses while promoting equal opportunity for research and innovation, NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said on Monday.
He was addressing a programme jointly organised by United Nations India and OP Jindal Global University.
Speaking on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence. Exploring Pluri-Perspectives , Kant said based on several stakeholder considerations on the subject, the NITI Aayog had released two working documents last year on responsible AI for the public comments.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Prakash Javadekar has emphasised on adopting holistic approach taking into consideration both the environmental conservation as well as growth of the country. Javadekar has said this during the NCAVES India Forum 2021, organised by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in a virtual format, with live sessions on January 14, 21 and 28, concluded on Thursday, according to a statement by MoSPI. The NCAVES stands for Natural Capital Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services . The event covered a wide range of topics pertaining to the System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA), according to the statement. MoSPI released the India EVL Tool giving a synoptic view of the environmental valuation studies conducted in India during the past 20 years.

India on January 16 rolled out the massive coronavirus vaccination drive - REUTERS× As India launched the world’s largest Covid-19 vaccination drive, several UN agencies are working closely with authorities for the massive vaccination programme, a spokesperson for the UN chief has said.
In India, the UN team led by Resident Coordinator Renata Dessallien is supporting the government and UN partners in the massive Covid-19 vaccination programme, said Stephane Dujarric, Spokesman for Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday.
“UN agencies are working closely with authorities to prepare and launch what is currently the world’s largest vaccination drive,” he told reporters at the daily press briefing, adding that as of Tuesday, the Indian government has vaccinated nearly half a million people.
