MUMBAI: The Bombay high court on Thursday told the Maharashtra government to take control of the Covid-19 situation on the ground due to “confusion and panic” among people with regard to shortage of Remdesivir injection, beds, oxygen and delay in getting tests results.

New Delhi [India], April 21 (ANI): Amid the surge in demand for Remdesivir injection for COVID-19 treatment, the capacity of domestic Remdesivir manufacturers has been ramped up from 38 lakh vials per month to 74 lakh vials per month, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by the ministry, 20 additional manufacturing sites have also been approved by the Centre to ramp up the production of Remdesivir. Keeping in mind the sudden surge in demand in the country for Remdesivir Injection required for Covid-19 therapy, the manufacturing capacity of domestic Remdesivir manufacturers has been ramped up. All support is being extended to manufacturers by the government in this endeavour. The production capacity is being ramped up from current level of 38 lakh vials per month to 74 lakh vials per month,

With the rise in Covid patients, demand for Remdisivir injection has also gone up, and to meet that the government has made an interim allocation of the anti viral drug for 19 States/UTs for the period up to April 30, 2021. These 19 states are Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand.

Remdesivir injection is not a magic bullet against Covid-19 and more than 85 per cent of people will recover without any specific treatment including Remdesivir, said Randeep Guleria, Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Wednesday.
Participating in an online discussion, along with Devi Shetty of Narayana Health and Naresh Trehan of Medanta, Guleria said there is enough data to show that 85 per cent of the people infected with the Covid-19 will recover without any specific treatment. “Most of them will have common symptoms such as common cold, body ache, sore threat, etc. Some may have gastritis and over a period of 5-7 days, they’ll recover with symptomatic treatment by keeping themselves hydrated, regular exercise and taking vitamins
