The government is trying to double the production of Remdesivir injection, used in the treatment of Covid-19 infected patients, in the next 15 days, Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers, said on Sunday. The announcement follows a decision by seven pharmaceutical companies in India to reduce the price of the lifesaving drug by 25-70 per cent. Sharing a video message on Twitter, Mandaviya said, “Government is trying to ramp up the production of lifesaving Remdesivir injection in the country and to make it more affordable. Production will be doubled to 3 lakh vials from the current production of 1.5 lakh vials each day.”

Govt says Remdesivir only for emergency uses
Amid the current surge in the number of coronavirus cases, several states have reported a shortage of anti-viral drug Remdesivir. The Health Ministry urged hospitals to use the drug judiciously and rationally. The ministry said that Remdesivir should be supplied only to hospitals and not to chemists or patients. The ministry said that the drug must be given only to hospitalised patients who are low on oxygen.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], April 14 (ANI): In view of the shortage of Remdesivir in Uttar Pradesh, Chief MinisterYogi Adityanath on Wednesday directed the state health department to acquire 25,000 injections of Remdesivir from Gujarat s Ahmedabad on an urgent basis.
According to the Chief Minister s Office (CMO), the officers of the Health Department left for Ahmedabad to get 25000 Remedisver injections at 10.40 am today.
Remdesivir is considered a key anti-viral drug in the fight against COVID-19.
Earlier, the Centre on Sunday prohibited exports of injection Remdesivir and Remdesivir Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) till the COVID-19 situation in the country improves.
