The Skylark Airfield in Killeen is set to receive $13,000 as part of a $100,000 grant, U.S. Rep. John Carter, R-Round Rock, announced.
The grant is part of COVID-19 relief funds and the rest of the funds are going to other Central Texas airports. The Killeen-Fort Hood Regional Airport received COVID relief funding in previous disbursements.
âThe COVID-19 pandemic has impacted individuals, families, and businesses in ways we never expected, and our local airports are no exception,â Carter said. âI am hopeful that these grants will ease the burden and aid in recovery as we work towards the future.â
Hilary Shine, the spokeswoman for the city of Killeen, provided a statement on the use of the funds via email Friday.
Former Silver Creek School Will be Rehabilitated Into Senior Apartments
The
Chautauqua County Legislature approved the sale of the former
Silver Creek School to a New Jersey corporation to be turned into senior apartments. The property had been in tax foreclosure.

Bob Bankoski said the old school is in drastic need of attention,
“This company that they’re proposing to rehabilitate the building is in the best interest of Chautauqua County and the Village of Silver Creek and the residents.”

SWEETWATER COUNTY During the Sweetwater County Commission meeting this morning, the commissioners unanimously approved a request to accept a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Coronavirus Response Grant Program agreement. Under the agreement, Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport will receive a little over $1 million.
At the meeting, Airport Executive Director Devon Brubaker said the agreement is coming from two different programs for a total of $1,013,325.
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act signed into law on December 27, 2020, includes nearly $2 billion in funds to be awarded as economic relief to eligible airports and concessions, information from the commission packet states.

After years of arriving and departing passengers increasing, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a major reduction. In 2016, the airport had nearly 51,000 passengers arrive and depart, in 2018, the number was 61,430 and in 2019, it reached 61,826.
