US Department of Labor awards $5M grant to reduce child labor in Ethiopiaâs coffee fields using a gender-focused approach
WASHINGTON, DC - A young Ethiopian girl dreamt of finishing school to become a health worker in her village. She was 13 when her father died, forcing her to leave school and enter the fields to pick coffee to help her family. During long days of work, she harvests, washes and sorts coffee cherries - exposed to sharp objects, pesticides and other hazardous chemicals - with her health and her future at risk.

‘Global Count’ reaches 135 countries as polling continues in worldwide gender equality survey

The ‘Global Count’ has reached over 135 countries in the largest ever global mapping audience participation survey about the social, political, cultural and economic barriers to their women’s progress.
Since launching on 21 January, the ‘Global Count’ has reached 135 countries, including in some of the hardest-to-reach communities.
Betsy Scolnik, Board Chair of Women’s March Global, said “We’re so excited to have heard from women and gender-diverse people from over 130 countries, with the data growing every day. A poll of this breadth and scope has never been done before and the more people we hear from, the stronger our evidence is for supporting women and gender-diverse people worldwide to an equitable and fairer future.
