Main Street receives $20K grant to help fund outdoor dining

March 3, 2021 To help defray costs associated with leasing safety barriers to create safe outdoor dining and shopping areas for downtown merchants, Rehoboth Beach Main Street kicked off a major fundraising project. The Delaware Division of Small Business announced that Main Street will receive a $20,000 grant to support this effort. With this grant, Main Street has raised more than $25,000 of its $30,000 goal. The grant funds can be used for partial reimbursement to the city on behalf of local businesses for the lease and installation of the safety barriers. Last year, the City of Rehoboth Beach paid for jersey-wall barriers to delineate dining space and create safe pedestrian areas across usual parking spaces. Working with the city government, restaurant owners were allowed to expand their dining spaces onto the sidewalks to recoup business that would otherwise be lost. February 26, 2021 Milford’s Bug & Bud Festival canceled Downtown Milford Inc. and the City of Milford’s Park & Recreation Department have canceled the 17th Annual Bug & Bud Festival scheduled for Saturday, April 24. Due to the amount of planning, fundraising, volunteer time and uncertainty whether state of emergency restrictions might be lifted, the organizations decided this was the best course of action. Later this year, they will begin planning next year’s Bug & Bud Festival, scheduled for Saturday, April 23, 2022. Unitarian Universalists to meet Feb. 28 The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold a live online service at 10 a.m., Sunday, Feb. 28. The Rev. Paula Maiorano said, “How are the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware planning to continue their journey toward spiritual wholeness and beloved community?” All are welcome to view this service on UUSD s Facebook Page. February 23, 2021 Welcome to Medicare seminars set Feb. 24 Delaware Medicare Assistance Bureau and the Delaware Department of Insurance will host virtual Welcome to Medicare seminars at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24. The bureau provides free, unbiased information and counseling to people covered by Medicare. DMAB and the Department of Insurance host free Welcome to Medicare events throughout the state. Many people who join Medicare have questions and concerns about their new, different type of health insurance.
