Looking to meet the demands of a growing Cape Region, the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company has kicked off its capital campaign for a new tower ladder truck.
During a press conference Dec. 16, fire company spokesman and Campaign Chair Warren Jones said the department’s current tower ladder truck is 25 years old, and a replacement truck is expected to cost at least $1.4 million.
Jones said the current truck still works and can do the job required, but newer trucks have much better technology. He said it’s getting harder and harder, and more expensive, to fix the truck when needed.

The Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company, in partnership with the Rehoboth Beach Police Department, is accepting end-of-year donations to the Geoff and Ken Derrickson Memorial Scholarship fund.
Now in its third year, the fund was established by Betsy Baumeister and Bob Derrickson to honor the lives of their twin sons, Ken and Geoff Derrickson, who died at young ages. Baumeister and Derrickson never forgot the support and care from Rehoboth s first responders for each of their sons. Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach recently showed thanks and support to the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company by presenting a check for $1,500 during a brief ceremony Dec. 7.

Walter L. Davis of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, Dec. 3, 2020, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
He was born in Wilmington June 28, 1941, to Helen Davis and the late Walter A. Davis. He graduated from St. Elizabeth’s High School and the University of Delaware with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering. Walt began his professional career with General Electric Co. in Philadelphia, Pa., designing power distribution equipment for major electric utilities in the U.S. and abroad.
He then joined Delmarva Power where he retired after 31 years of service, having held various management positions, especially in the Energy Efficiency and Direct Load Control programs in all its service areas in Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey at that time.
