is a big issue for people who do not use much gas and electricity because they are paying a charge and you can t do anything about it. you cannot cut your energy use and cut your standing charge. it s not possible. they have been going up. 0fgem, 0fgem will challenge this morning on the standing charges, which is really importantly, vary depending on where you live as well. there are areas like merseyside and north wales where it s more expensive than other areas. that s a historical thing to do with getting energy to these areas. 0fgem are saying they have looked at trying to shift some of these charges from a standing charge onto the unit charge and say that s difficult, it s not fair, in certain circumstances, that debate is clearly going to continue.
