COVID-19 surge: Delhi High Court to hear only urgent matters filed in 2021

Synopsis Keeping in view the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the NCT of Delhi, it has been ordered that all the benches of this court shall with effect from April 19, 2021 take up extremely urgent matters filed in the year 2021 only, the order said.

In view of the alarming rise in COVID-19 cases in the national capital, the Delhi High Court on Sunday issued an office order stating that from April 19 onwards it will only take up extremely urgent matters filed this year. The order issued by the High Court s Registrar General Manoj Jain also said that other pending routine or non-urgent matters and those cases filed or listed before the court between March 22, 2020 and December 31, 2020 shall not be taken up for now and would be adjourned en bloc.

Taking a serious view of the “alarming rise in COVID-19 cases” in the Capital, the Delhi High Court on Thursday announced that it will take up court proceedings through virtual mode from April 9 to April 23.
The office circular issued by Registrar General Manoj Jain also said that no adverse order would be passed by the courts of Joint Registrars (judicial) in case of non-appearance of parties and/or their counsel and the matter which are fixed for recording of evidence before the said courts shall be adjourned.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi high court on Saturday issued an office order stating that from March 15 all its judges would hold physical hearing of cases.
The high court said the existing system under which only 11 benches - two division benches of two judges each and nine single-judge benches - hear matters via the physical mode would continue till March 12.
The office order issued by Registrar General Manoj Jain said, The full court has been pleased to order that the existing system of hearing the matters in this court shall continue up to March 12, 2021. It has further been ordered that all benches of this court shall hold physical courts, on a daily basis, with effect from March 15, 2021 and shall continue to take up the matters as per the existing arrangement of listing.
