NRC’s Regional Office in Nairobi is recruiting a Regional Programme Director. This role offers a great opportunity for an experienced programme strategist, humanitarian manager and innovator to lead the strategic evolution of NRC’s rapidly growing regional portfolio across ten countries, whilst also influencing the wider humanitarian sector towards greater impact for those it serves. Based in Nairobi, the position manages an existing team of leading technical advisors and is a key contributor to global, regional and country teams.

The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Inside Syria, 6.2 million people are internally displaced and 11.7 million are in need of humanitarian assistance. There are 5.6 million Syrian refugees in neighboring countries. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair and has a profound impact on the neighboring countries which are hosting the overwhelming majority of Syrian refugees and find themselves under increasing strain.

Background:
As part of CARE’s priority to strengthen its humanitarian preparedness and response globally, region-based humanitarian coordinator positions have been established in major regions where CARE operates. Regional Humanitarian Coordinators support CARE offices and regions in the initial phases of an emergency response, rapid escalations of needs in needs, humanitarian programming and response, preparedness, regional donor relationships, capacity building, humanitarian policy & analysis and technical assistance in the support of quality emergency & humanitarian response including Gender in Emergencies and partnership.
