It is a prelude to the annual trans march friday night. People here and over in the castro are taking time to reflect on what pride means to them. Just being out and proud and loud and being who you are, wearing what you want to wear. And loving who you want to love. Pride for me is buzzing no i am here, and i do exist, and please do not take that away from me. The first time being and out, gay person with pride. Reporter sarah says she came out just a few months ago now she and her partner in the castro to celebrate what it is like to be free in a community where it is okay to be open, accepting and loving. I think it is nice to be able to share it. I would never post on social media or anything like that. It is nice to just feel very free. Reporter a lot of us come here to escape the homophobia we grew up with. I grew up in an area so conservative, if you came out as gay youre probably going to gebeat. So, i came out when i was 15 and i immediately came here for pride. Reporter that
Bars and restaurants in the castro are hopping with as many as a Million People descending on the city for pride. We have live coverage from amber lee live in the castro. The celebration of pride is well underway. Thousands strong. The Transgender Community held its 16th annual march. A tradition on the friday of pride weekend. Two transgender women both attempted suicide in the past for fear of being shunned by family and others. They say the pride celebration gives them francisco remarkable is the life thats found here, to provide the resources to help all of us struggling to get through our journey much easier.
